"Let's go," Declan says, but he doesn't make a move to release her from his arms. "In a few, though, I'm not inclined to let you go just yet."

Damn, he was gone on her. Too gone.

It's sort of a long walk from the Hub to his hut and that's mostly by design. Declan likes having something that's easily defended in the case of an attack and the hut being isolated as it is has a good visibility for anyone coming in. If he knows it's coming, he can be prepared. Of course, that's all worst-case scenario and a bit dire but it doesn't hurt to be prepared for everything. It's that same motto that's kept his head attached to his shoulders for the past forty some years.

When they get there (and he's not calling it home even if he concedes to being stuck here for a while - home is an antique bed in London with fantastic sheets and a great view), it's automatic to open the door for her even if Kate Freelander's not the sort of woman who needs doors opened for her.

Kate shivers when he leaves her and curls around her knees. When he comes back, she curls around him and shivers more at the heat of his skin against hers. The fight or flight reflex that sent her bolting before is still there, but she can't imagine leaving now.

"You do." She smooths her hand down his chest and over his abs. "Too good, sometimes."

"Just want to make you happy," Declan says and it's honest. He's always honest with her even when the truth hurts them both, like he'd been about wanting promises of exclusivity.

"Any way I can do that, I will."

"I don't even know what to do with that," Kate tells him quietly, hauls herself closer with an arm around his chest, and then rests her head on his shoulder. She's trying to pull herself together, trying to ignore the twin throb in her cunt and her ass that have his name on them. It's not actually working.

"I don't know what to do with any of this. I've never been like this with anyone else."

"Just let it be, I guess," Declan says, unsure of what to really say to comfort her. "I'm not trying to pressure you, Kate. I swear I'm not trying to pressure you so if it feels like that, I apologize."

"Might be easier if you were." Kate lifts her head and can't help smiling at him. "Then I could call you a dick and bail." She really only means to take a soft kiss, but she falls into it. That's kind of the problem with him in general. She means to take an inch and ends up giving him the yard.
